So it seems the whole country has gone football crazy and adorned their cars and houses with red and white flags, but what do you do if you just want to avoid The World Cup frenzy?

  1. Support an alternative Three Lions. For example take a lovely walk around the heritage city of Bath in Somerset and find the 100 life size decorated lion sculptures dotted all over the city. Pride in our city: Lions of Bath 2010 Take the opportunity to be a tourist in your own town and go and see all the things you take for granted being a local.

    Lions of Bath 3

    Thermae Spa, Bath

    Lions of Bath 4

  2. Avoid pubs with TV screens – this is your opportunity to sample some alternative water holes, cafes, or unplug the TV and invite (likeminded non-football frenzied) friends round to socialise with you at home.
  3. If World Cup talk breaks out at work, step away from the water cooler, nod your head and  give a few well timed sighs of agreement and edge away slowly.
  4. When the sport is announced on the TV news or radio change channels or stations – quickly.
  5. Watch all the movies you’ve been meaning to watch for ages and have a film fest. You can sign up for a 14 day free trial at LoveFilm.com or get ‘extra time’ and watch as much as you like online until 11th July.
